Dancer | Performance and Butoh Artist | Choreographer | Artistic Director | Teacher
Maya Yogel is a dancer, performance and Butoh artist, choreographer, artistic director and a teacher.
In 2020 she founded the Maya Yogel Center for Dance and Performing Arts. Yogel's strengths as an artist, which have distinguished her from a young age, are embodied in her movement language.
Maya Yogel completed her degree in Art and Theatre at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and was previously a student in the Dance Education track at the Rubin Academy of Dance.
From the beginning of her artistic journey, she has been exploring the development of a new movement language.
Yogel tests and stretches the boundaries of modern dance by combining avant-garde movement and thought with traditional and surrealistic elements.
The combination of Yogel’s academic education and two decades of investigation and practice among world-renowned multidisciplinary artists, lead to the creation of a new and unique language, inspired by the cross-cultural dialogue.
In her works,Yogel emphasizes the tension between cultural differences, translating that tension into an original, new, and unique dance movement. Yogel, in formal and experimental methods, encourages her students in Israel and abroad to take an interest in these differences in order to inspire a new creation. The resulting unique dance language is based on, and draws inspiration from ancient traditions, which range from experimental to traditional. Both in her own work and her advanced teaching style, Yogel focuses on gathering methods with which to enhance and develop the qualities of her movements.
In her unique teaching style and creative approach, as a artist, choreographer and a teacher, Yogel guides students to find their inner dance. She stirs her students and audiences, and enriches the materials she brings with her personality, experience, and her unique works.
